In the summer of 1989, a musician Enrico Zabler and DJ Tommy Shleh met in a London club and came up with an idea to create a music project. In January 1990, they formed Masterboy. A little later, the band released the first single “Dance To The Beat”. Initially, the song was recorded for “The Kinki” disco and was supposed to be sold exclusively at the club. However, the popularity of the single exceeded all expectations. In July 1990, it made its way into the German charts and managed to stay there for 16 weeks in a row. By that time, Tommy and Enrico were joined by David Atterberry and Mendy Lee.
By the end of 1990, the band recorded another hit song “Shake Up And Dance”. In the beginning of 1991, the song conquered the charts. Soon the four band members started working on the band’s debut LP. At the same time, they performed at different events, TV-shows, radio programs, and parties. Many organizers wanted to book Masterboy for their private events because the band wasn’t yet at the peak of its popularity but already showed great potential.
In the middle of 1991, Masterboy became popular in Europe and released the debut LP The Masterboy Family. The popular British band Pet Shop Boys offer the musicians to release the single “Shake Up And Dance” under their label in the UK. A little later, the band recorded their third single “I Need Your Love”.
In 1992, the band was touring Germany and traveling abroad. At the same time, they were working on the second LP Feeling Alright, which came out in 1993. The first single from the LP “Fall In Trance” immediately made it to the high spots of the dance charts in Austria, Italy, France, Germany, and the UK. At the same time, the band released their famous song “Cause We Do It Again”, which was recorded with the assistance of Trixi Delgado. The next single recorded with Trixi was “Everybody Needs Somebody.” It reached the 41st spot on the German chart and became very popular abroad, where it reached top-30 in more than a dozen countries.
In 1994, the band recorded “I Got To Give It Up.” The music video was very popular on MTV. The next hit of 1994 was “Feel The Heat Of The Night,” which conquered the European charts and reached the 2nd spot on the Singles Chart in France. That year, the group released their third album Different Dreams.
Masterboy spent the end of 1994 and 1995 touring the world. The musicians made a huge impression on the Brazilian audience. Their songs were playing on the radio 20 times a day. In the middle of 1995, the group released “Generation Of Love,” which reached the 16th spot on German charts. It was also featured in the band’s fourth LP with the same name.
In 1996, Trixi left the band due to family problems. The band found Linda Rocco to replace her. A year later, Masterboy recorded a successful song “La Ola Hand In Hand.” The band’s popularity started waning slightly. In 1998 and 1999, they kept silence. Upon coming back, the group recorded “Porque Te Vas.” Then they released a few more singles but there wasn’t any information about new albums.
In 2000, the band released a compilation LP Best of Masterboy, which reached the 54th spot on German Albums Chart. Trixi Delgado rejoined the band.
In 2003, the band stopped working on new music. The fans were highly disappointed. Suddenly, 10 years later, Masterboy unexpectedly came back to the music world and started giving concerts.
